ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to know comics intrapersonal communication in making stand-up comedy material at Stand-Up Comedy Community Surabaya. Intrapersonal communication is divided into three main reviews which are information processing, message designing, and statement process. The subjects of this research are comics who join Stand-Up Comedy Community Surabaya.

The method which is utilized is phenomenology by using in-depth interview data collection technique, participants observation and documentation. Informants are selected by using purposive sampling method. The data analysis uses phenomenology analysis technique according to Creswell. The data validity verification technique uses source and technique triangulation. 

The result of this process indicates the information management process which involves event capturing process using vision and hearing senses, the meaning tends to be based on anxiety and based on comics knowledge, save the event than recall and recognition, the last process is to think realistically on premise and set-up, meanwhile on punchline is to think autistically. Designing message with the consideration towards audiences and rules, there are also comics effort to aspire on audiences. The statement is made by using as brief words as possible with proposition which is started on previous logic and also providing expression within the material. The desire is in form of conformity in some materials, it is in form initial and last material reception, and entertaintment in the material content. The statement is to influence audiences to laugh. Besides, there is also a statement which is inform of persuasive argument on a topic.
